What are you labouring for?
Hours roll onto days which rolls onto weeks, months & years. Let's take a look at what can give the greatest return on our labour.
I dropped out of school as soon as I could, I’m greatful to my parents for not giving me an option but to only work. They made the choice crystal clear, if I leave school I have to work. So I started work as a general hand, which meant I would sweep, make cups of tea & paint ceilings. It was hard work, I was doing the jobs no one else wanted to do. As I progressed over the years I began to realise I was trading my time for money & I began to see I was exchanging what was precious for the financial gain. After getting married & having children the responsibility of life, of being a husband, a father, a provider was real. There was a time we lived from hand to mouth, work, money, food, bills. Although, thankfully we had been taught well in the House of God, we were taught to make God our source, look to Him, give & expect a miracle. God did that because that is what the Bible says. Even though we felt like we were “doing the grind” we worked the Word which released us from the mundane, mediocre life into the higher life.
Jesus said to labour for food the endures to everlasting life:
Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” — John 6:27
We get one life, the question is, how will we spend it? Doing the grind, to work, to hand, to mouth or investing in eternity? In souls, in taking the Gospel to those who have not heard it or do not have access to it. The Great Commission is a worthy cause, one celebrated in Heaven, one the Master praises.
His last command should be our highest priority.
I have made up my mind, this is the cause that counts, how about you?
